The National Museum of Mexican Art

Picture
A few weeks ago I visited The National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago, Illinois.  I was really impressed with the museum's collection.  The works of art were displayed in brightly colored rooms with great quotes and information on the walls.  Unfortunately I have very limited knowledge of Mexican art, so this was a great experience for me to discover artists to research further.

Below are a few photographs I took of my favorite works on display.  I also made sure to get the names of the artists so I would be able to look them up later and discover more of their work.  I hope to incorporate some of these artists in future lesson plans: Alejandro Romero, Josefina Aguilar Alcantara, Elnar and Jamex de la Torre, David Avalos, Cesar Augusto Martinez, Alejandro Garcia Nelo, Frank Ybarra, Carlos Cortez, and Pedro Meyer.

I hope to be an example for my students, as someone who really values seeing art in galleries and museums.  I want to encourage them to do the same, and not just to see "famous" artworks, but to discover art from contemporary artists, and artworks of various cultures.
