This fifth grade lesson plan (could be adapted to other grade levels) focuses on an artwork by South African artist, Garth Erasmus, titled, The Muse 3. Students create a mixed-media self-portrait by collaging half of a printed photograph, and drawing the remaining half of their face. This PowerPoint includes priority standards (National Core Arts Standards), "I can" statements, art critique exercises, symmetry activities, and a final project rubric!
