This workbook features activities for art, music, and poetry of the Harlem Renaissance. Students will critique artwork by Jacob Lawrence, Lois Mailou Jones, and Romare Bearden. By identifying words with imagery, students will illustrate poems by Langston Hughes, Clarissa Scott Delaney, Claude McKay, and Gwendolyn Bennett. Using imagery from the tempo, instruments, and lyrics, students will illustrate songs by Duke Ellington and Josephine Baker.
I use this workbook as warm-up activities, or for early finishers, while students learn more about these individuals and create an original art project that incorporates art, music and writing.
