Arranged Collection Illustrations: Haeckel and Congdon
Ernst Haeckel was a German biologist who created detailed illustrations of animals and sea creatures.
Lisa Congdon is a fine artist and illustrator who created drawings, photographs, and paintings of one collection a day for an entire year.
This elementary art lesson is inspired by Haeckel and Congdon’s illustrations of collections! Students will photograph and illustrate an arrangement of objects that reflect their personal interests.
This 21-page lesson plan includes: information about both artists, objectives, National Core Arts Standards, materials list, procedure, assessment, and extension, as well as resources, and images of the artists' work and a teacher-made example photograph for inspiration. The document also includes a compare/contrast questionnaire, and a unity/variety questionnaire for students to complete.
