In preparation for Chinese New Year, students create their own 3D paper sculptures! Inspired by the Legend of Nian, a beast who terrorizes a village on the last day of the lunar year, students write their own legends about a beast/dragon/monster character.
Students use descriptive language to help make design decisions of color, shapes, and unique features to bring their character to life!
The lesson is written for 4th and 5th grade level, but may be adapted for younger or older students.
This 18-page lesson plan includes: information about the legend, objectives, National Core Arts Standards, materials list, procedure (with step-by-step photos!) and assessment, as well as resources and student examples for inspiration.
